Summer Bummer
Lana Del Rey has always dazzled me. Her ability to vocalize my thoughts, feelings, and emotions through her dark and enchanting lyrics, romantic melodies and cinematic presentations is unlike any other female artist in our generation. And her latest album, Lust For Life, is no different. After listening to Lust For Life on repeat for the past few weeks, I've realized that it acts as the perfect soundtrack for the transition from Summer to Fall.
But after one of the best Summer's I've experienced in years, it feels impossible to let go and simply enjoy Autumn. Whether it's because I don't want the memories to fade, or I'm frightened to enter the months my mental health hit an all-time low, I'm completely unsure of what's to come. And that scares me.
Listening to Lana Del Rey has always caused a rise of emotions within me, but listening to the 16 tracks featured on Lust For Life have hit a new nerve, especially this week. I've been flung into my very own 'Summer Bummer', that I simply can't explain. The best way to describe it is as that bittersweet feeling you get when you know things are doomed to change.
To be honest, things have simply been going so well as of late, in both my career and friendships, that I'm terrified that as the Summer sunshine fades, so too will my newfound happiness. It's something that can be truly difficult to discuss with other because discussing your own success is difficult. And honestly, can come off as obnoxious and sound like a 'first world problem'. However, it's something that I think many people with mental health issues experience as they enter the Fall/Winter seasons.
So for now, I'll remain a prisoner of Summer, wearing my new found Choker Necklace, a faux BDSM collar from Light In The Box and juxtaposing Gingham Frill Skirt. The way these two pieces complement and contrast each other is also extremely representative of my uneasiness of the seasonal change. Can you tell that I'm someone who loves to reflect their mood and personality through their style? Yeah... me either.
