Fenty Beauty by Rihanna
Having invested far too much money into limited edition beauty (read: MAC) products and hyped up brands in the past, I'm now hesitant to buy unless I've heard rave reviews from friends. But when Rihanna launches a beauty collection, that logic is thrown out of the window and a girl goes ham.
Fenty Beauty by Rihanna launched at midnight last Thursday at select Sephora locations, which happened to include the Toronto Eaton Centre. And although I was unable to scheme my way into the launch event, I armed my good friend, and travel blogger, Elaisha Jade, with a list of Fenty Beauty products I simply HAD to own. Topping my list were the Match Stix Shimmer Skin Sticks, the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters and the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer. And as always, my girl came through!
Much like Rihanna, the Fenty Beauty collection is stunning in both its composition and purpose. The collection, which took 2 years to conceptualize and launch, is based on inclusion and features an array of light and dark foundation shades that go above and beyond the competition. So much so, that the deepest foundation shades have sold out Sephora-wide! Beauty brands take note! Rihanna also made a bold statement by creating a single lip product, said to be universally flattering across skin tones.
From the brand concept to the compelling packaging, to the videography and models she chose to represent Fenty Beauty, Rihanna slayed the launch of her revolutionary makeup brand.
Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer
One of my favourite things about Gloss Bomb is the fact that Rihanna claims she made 'it because she wanted the girls to be kissed more'. The more and more I think about the statement the odder it seems, but at the same time, Gloss Bomb dries to a unique, velvety finish that wouldn't interfere with a makeout session. So Rihanna got me there.
Another is the fact that the gloss is only available in Fenty Glow, a perfect rose nude shade that flatters anyone who tries it – somewhat like the pants from the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. And trust me, I put this theory to the test this weekend and forced my girls, Elaisha and Vyvian, to wear it alongside of me. The gloss perfectly blended into each and every one of our lips, leaving a beautiful glossy finish with hints of gold shimmer behind.
Finally, I'm obsessed with the peach-vanilla scent found in a tube of Gloss Bomb! It instantly takes me back to my elementary days when I was addicted to Bonnebell lipglosses. But you best believe that the scent and formula of Gloss Bomb are a major upgrade from the Bonnebell products I used in my past.
Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick
When I first laid my eyes on the Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks I knew that the shades Starstruck, Confetti, and Unicorn were made for me, despite being unsure of their purpose. They are said to satisfy your every need and act as a highlight, blush and enhance, which in Rih-land means a purple heart in the center of your face. Don't feel me? Check out her latest cover of Elle Magazine here. I personally plan to follow suit and use the Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks however and wherever the F$%K I want to.
The shades Starstruck, Confetti, and Unicorn instantly spoke to me because they seemed the most wearable. They also perfectly complement each other, meaning I'll be able to easily mix and match the shades to create something unique. I also adore the fact the Shimmer Skinsticks are magnetized and have a distinct hexagonal shape. Meaning when they are near each other they are drawn together they create a honeycomb effect! I can't wait to collect more because together, they will act as a stunning display on my makeup vanity.
When it comes to the shades I purchased, Starstruck is by far the most wearable. Described as an iced out pearl, I could see this acting as my go-to daily highlighter. I then went for a slightly bolder shade with Confetti, an iridescent opal. And topped it all off with Unicorn, the vivid lilac shade worn by Rihanna on her Elle cover. The cream formula allows to Shimmer Skinsticks to glide onto the skin and blend with ease and is highly pigmented providing a beautiful swatch with glorious shimmer. I seriously can't stop looking at them!
Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter
Last, but certainly not least, there's the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Trophy Wife and Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule, which in my opinion were the stars of the colour products offered in Fenty Beauty collection. Not only was Trophy Wife worn by Rihanna at the launch in Brooklyn, New York, it can be seen from a mile away. And Ginge Binge/Moscow Mule is another on of Rihanna's universally flattering shades that appeal to everyone.
The Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters are INSANELY pigmented and offer a blendable formula that feels like a cream-powder. Plus each formula is loaded with super fine shimmer to keep your skin lit for miles. It's rare that I reach for a gold as bold as this, but Trophy Wife is a must have. I mean I was nearly blinded by Rihanna's lives tream of the event merely due to the glory of this shade! Described as a 3D hyper-metallic gold, this is one of those face, collarbones, shins, erry-where kinda highlight.
And then there's Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule.. WOO! Talk about a stunning duo for the Fall/Winter season! Described as soft copper shimmer and supercharged copper shimmer, I not only plan to use this duo on my cheeks, I'll also be using it alongside MAC Cranberry to create beautiful eye looks for the Fall season.
Swatches of Fenty Beauty
I've been with the above Fenty Beauty products for less than a week and I'm already obsessing like I'm Eminimen over Mariah Carey. Someone help! Or, better yet, send me money so that I can buy more of the collection!
