MAKE UP FOR EVER / ULTRA HD CONCEALER
As our obsession with selfies, social media, and 'capturing the moment' – I hyphenate that because in 'capturing the moment' we miss being present in said moment – continue to grow, so must the technology that supports it. In 2015 we welcomed cell phones equipped with 4K technology, the new Ultra HD, able to capture images with extreme clarity; and with it our insecurities rose as we recognized that blemishes, scars, and hyper-pigmentation would all reveal themselves in our future Instagrams. But, as leading innovators in the beauty industry, Make Up For Ever knew what was up, and began formulating concealers and foundations designed specifically for 4K technology. The Ultra HD Foundation ($50), available in a liquid or stick formula, has been available in Sephora for months, providing plenty of time for me to award it HG status – see my review here. And now, Make Up For Ever releases their complimentary Ultra HD Concealer ($32), a potent dark circle concealer that instant brightens.
Available in 10 shades, divided into two groups: half to colour correct and half to conceal, the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer remains invisible no matter the lens. Choose a colour correcting shade to neutralize dark circles, discolouration and blue tones, and/or a concealing shade to even out the skin tone. Those with darker skin tones may struggle to find a suitable shade within the line, however fair-skinned beauties will be overwhelmed with choice. The lightweight cream formula contains an Anti-Dark Circle Complex with Radiance Booster, which stimulates collagen to refresh and awaken the under eye area, while the infusion of Pure Focus Pigments reflect light to erase shadows, and hylauronic spheres prevent moisture loss. The details:
- Lamellar Structure Pigments reflect and diffuse light, erasing under eye shadows and blurring imperfections.
- An Anti-Dark Circle Complex comprised of Green Algae and Amino Acids helps conceal and correct, and features a radiance booster made up of Asian Berry Extract, which facilitates the production of collagen, which in turn brightens and smooths skin.
- A 3D elastomer gel to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Having previously stood by the Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer, which I would mix with an under eye cream like the Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm, I can attest to the fact that the Ultra HD Concealers are MUCH better suited for the under eye area. This is largely due to the thinner consistency found in the Ultra HD Concealers, which enable them to easily blend into the skin, revealing a blurred effect. The rounded nozzle tip takes some practice to perfect application, especially as only a little product is needed to conceal, but I've found that squeezing a bit of product onto the back of my hand before blending it into the under eye area with a damp BeautyBlender works best.
Sephora Tip: Tilt your head down and look straight into the mirror to see where you need coverage. Apply Ultra HD Concealer directly to the darkest areas.
Bottom line, if you're pale and in search for a good under eye concealer, the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer is one to investigate.
