ON TREND / THE MONK STRAP

Monk strap; it's a term I had never heard until this past year, and yet now I find myself owning a pair of monk strap shoes and I'm obsessed. It's a style typically seen in men's dress shoes but has recently been making its way into women's oxfords, both with single and double straps. I grabbed this pair, the Joie($65 CAD) from Aldo, and despite being synthetic, they truly do look and feel like real leather. Plus they provide a masculine touch to any outfit and in this case provide a balance to the girly nature of this Golevi Twist Dress($71), which got from Dezzal. This dress has quickly become a staple in my closet because I can throw it on in the morning with ease and, best yet, I rarely worry about ironing it because the twisted front gives an undone feel. Throw on some simple silver details, cat eye sunglasses, and a black shopper bag – this one was thrifted from Value Village, because fun, cool, cheap – and this look is complete. And oddly perfect for back to school, which I'll be doing next week... but we'll get into that in the next post.

Until then be sure to head to Dezzal for a bit of retail therapy – they are similar to Hautelook, but sell products in and outside of flash sales. I got a few items and am seriously impressed with the quality of each garment.
