It started with the release of the Ultra HD Foundation last summer, an upgrade to their former HD formula, continued with the launch of the Artist Rouge Lipsticks earlier this year, and now, they've improved a personal favourite, the Face & Body Foundation. Welcome the Make Up For Ever Water Blend Face & Body Foundation ($54).

The Water Blend Face & Body Foundation ($54), features the same water-gel texture as the former version, with water comprising 80% of the formula, but now the water has been infused with provitamin B5 for added hydration and improved skin elasticity. Since Vitamin B5 is a humectant – a fancy term for something that retains or preserves moisture – it stabilizes the skin's barrier by preventing moisture loss. This is further promoted by the addition of glycerin and mango butter, which both help lock in hydration all day long. Ultimately, allowing the Water Blend Face & Body Foundation to blend pigments and water into the skin to ensure your complexion looks and feels it's best.

Of the 20 shades available in the Water Blend Face & Body Foundation I received the shade Y245 (soft sand) to test and review, which features heavier yellow undertones than the shade I would formerly purchase in the Face & Body Foundation – yes, I still have some kicking around. The consistency of each is similar and almost water-like, with the formula of the original Face & Body foundation being thicker, but ever so slightly. Given its texture I've found it best to apply the Water Blend Face & Body Foundation with my fingers or my Rodial Foundation Brush, as a beauty sponge soaks up too much product, and any other brush I've used has left streaks. But truthfully I almost prefer using my fingers because I've found that the warmth of skin on skin helps to facilitate the foundation to 'become one' with the skin, and thereby becoming unnoticeable – in a good way. 

Because the formula is so lightweight the coverage is quite sheer, although it can be built up to light coverage with an additional coat or two. For this reason I would only recommend this foundation to someone with minimal skin imperfections, as those I know with hard to cover scarring have felt disappointed by the coverage. Even I, with minimal skin issues, only wear this foundation for day. It's great at providing the 'my skin but better' look/feel, but doesn't provide enough coverage to compliment a heavier makeup look. 

Once dry the Water Blend Face & Body Foundation takes on an almost matte finish that is waterproof and transfer resistant. It's one of the most comfortable foundation to wear — so comfortable that most days I forget I'm even wearing it. This is likely also due to it's transfer resistant properties, which are a saving grace for me personally. I immediately noticed this benefit of the Water Blend because, for whatever reason, after doing my makeup in the morning I ALWAYS need to blow my nose (TMI, I know). But it speaks to its transfer resistant properties because this is the first foundation I've used in which I don't notice my makeup transferring to the tissue — a major success in my books.

At the end of the day this is the ideal foundation for the girl who hates to wear makeup, but it also serves as a great option for the makeup obsessed on the days when sheer coverage is preferred.
