Rooted in the fine arts, Make Up For Ever is no stranger to contouring; the art of sculpting the face through the use of shadow and light. The technique, once limited to industry professionals, is now a world-wide phenomenon and an integral part of most women's daily makeup routine. The latest release from Make Up For Ever, their Pro Sculpting collection, brings an ease to contouring with a line of face, brow and lip products, each featuring remarkably easy to use formulations.

The Pro Sculpting Face Palettes($54) are the most notable from the collection, and are quickly gaining popularity since their release in Sephora this month. Available in four skin-tone variations – 20(light), 30(medium), 40 (tan), and 50(dark) – each palette features four cream shades, three matte and one shimmer, to subtly accentuate the highlights and shadows found amongst the planes of the face. Although I typically stray from cream products, it's that exact aspect of the Pro Sculpting Face Palettes that has me so addicted; the cream formula makes them so easy to use. The formula features: 

- Polymers and Polyester Oils, which provide supreme blendability and high-pigment power.
- A mix of Synthetic & Carnauba Waxes with Silicone Coated Pigments to provide long-lasting, 8 hour wear. 
- Synthetic Mica to diffuse light for a satin finish, combined with smoothing 3D Polymer Powders for an even, natural finish that feels comfortable on the skin.

THE PALETTES

I was introduced to the Pro Sculpting Face Palettes at the 'release party' that Make Up For Ever held, which took place at the Al Green Sculpting Studio and School in Toronto. Myself, along with ~15 other bloggers were reminded how integral it is to focus on the planes of the face when contouring, through drawing and sculpting exercises. The event gave me a deeper insight to the brand's fine arts background and reminded me that makeup is undoubtedly an art in it's own right. 

Since our introduction, the Face Palette in shade 20 has not left my side. As I mentioned before I've never been a lover of cream products, always finding them difficult to blend or having a short wear-time, but this palette is not like the rest; it's pigmented, blend-able and long-wearing. I like to apply it as detailed below using my Stila Shape & Shade Custom Contour Brush($49), which allows for precise application, even when contouring the nose and eyes. I then blend out the highlighted and shadowed areas of my face using a damp beautyblender($28), which completely blurs any edges, creating a life-like shadow effect. The results are extremely natural, and completely unnoticeable to the untrained eye, making the Pro Sculpting Face Palettes my favourite contouring product of 2016.

HOW TO USE

1. Apply the matte light shade to highlight underneath the brow bone, on the bridge of the nose and on top of cheek bones.

2. To add contour and dimension, use the deep matte shade along the jaw line and below the cheek bones, and gently blend using an upward motion towards the ears.

3. Enhance the look by applying a touch of the iridescent light shade on all highlighted areas.

4. Finish by adding a touch of color to cheeks with the blush.
