BALANCING ACT
Finding balance when layering can be troublesome at the best of times; tack on a monochromatic palette and watch the difficulty level increase ten-fold. The secret to keeping black-on-black interesting and never sloppy? A favourable mixture of texture and fit.
Here I've gone baggy on top, wearing my Zara Sherpa Vest (similar here) atop my most-loved fall jacket, the Todd by Valérie Dumaine. The texture and silver details found within the vest help to differentiate it from the wool jacket beneath, adding a sense of depth to the look. To keep the outfit streamlined and chic, and certify that I do in fact have a figure beneath this mountain of fabric, I've paired my bulky outerwear selections with super skinny waxed denim and mirrored booties (snagged for a mere $25 at The Bay). This not only promotes a harmony between fits (baggy on top, fitted on bottom), but the mirrored heels make a bold statement, and accentuate the silver details found within the vest. Now all that's left to do is to tack on a few silver accessories, grab a quilted black bag, and claim your title of 'monochromatic layering master'.
