NATURAL REMEDIES . SAJE WELLNESS

After being somewhat bombarded by Saje Wellness this year – seriously, their stores BLEW up Southern Ontario – I've joined the natural bandwagon thanks to a gentle push from my friend Jessica. Knowing my struggle to obtain mental clarity, Jessica, who works at the Sherway location, suggested a few remedies that she felt would be beneficial for me. Although I was skeptical, I was reminded that essential oils have been used for decades thanks to their remarkable therapeutic properties, and have been proven to enhance physical, mental, and emotional states of being. 'What we put in our bodies and what we put on our bodies is directly related to our own health' – a statement by Saje Wellness that will remain near and dear to my heart throughout 2016.

THE REMEMDIES

Peppermint Halo ($26.95) – AKA THE PRODUCT THAT SELLS YOU ON NATURAL HEALING
A top seller for good reason, Peppermint Halo, also known as the 'four minute miracle' for headaches, features an intense-but-delayed cooling effect, providing instant proof that essential oils are effective. This is the first product shown to you when you enter the store for good reason, a sales tactic, but within minutes I no longer cared as I felt the intense cooling sensation on the nape of my neck where the sales associate had applied it – and by applied I mean massaged. The intoxicating aroma hails from a blend of Peppermint, camphorous Eucalyptus, and Lavender essential oils, three of the six essential oils used to create this product, which also possess sedative qualities to relieve tension and balance the nerves. I've yet to suffer a headache since owning this roll-on wonder so I can't speak to it's efficacy in that regard, however, I've thoroughly enjoyed using it as a stress-reliever at the end of the day.

Sleep Well ($26.95) – AKA THE PRODUCT THAT SMELLS LIKE SHIT BUT WORKS
When you've experienced years of restless nights you become slightly religious about your 'sleep regime'. And although I've long surrendered to the sedative properties of, in my opinion, the most powerful natural remedy on the planet, weed, I'm always open to trying alternatives that can be incorporated alongside the green. The essential oils in Sleep Well include Roman Chamomile, Lavender, Marjoram, and Valerian, which all combine to act as calming agents, signalling the body to slow down and enter the natural sleep cycle. I've been applying this aromatic remedy to the soles of my feet, as well as my wrists, allowing me to breathe in the powerful concoction throughout the night. With extended use your sheets begin to take on the aroma and you find comfort in it, further promoting a restful sleep. I've been using the product nightly for two weeks and have already decreased the amount of weed I need to smoke to achieve a full nights sleep. I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I'm hopeful that by the end of 2016 Sleep Well will be the sole reason I experience a great slumber.

Quick Study Remedy ($19.95) – AKA THE PRODUCT TO SUBSTITUTE YOUR RITALIN PRESCRIPTION
I've always wanted a Ritilan prescription – the idea that a single pill can instantly sharpen focus and improve concentration is one that's always dizzied my impatient, result-oriented brain. But attaining a Ritilan prescription is near impossible; the next best thing: Quick Study Remedy. The blend of Myrtle, Lemon, Orange, Geranium, and Cedarwood features a bright aroma that is instantly energizing, so much so that I've been using it alongside Buddha breathing techniques to energize myself in the morning. The blend also features detoxifying properties, which help dissolve petrochemicals that congest receptor sites in the brain, allowing for improved clarity and focus. Given the fact that those living/working in urban areas inhale 2000+ chemicals/day, it's no wonder we suffer from mental fatigue. The Quick Study Remedy has helped me through many lethargic days, and now remains a staple in my purse; three deep breathes of it's aroma is all I need whenever a pick me up is required.
